Cannabis plants seized from house in Eyres Monsell, Leicester This is Leicestershire -- Police seized 40 cannabis plants and cultivation equipment from a house after a tip-off from a member of the public. A resident passed on their suspicions about the house in Strensall Road, Eyres Monsell, Leicester and officers called in the force helicopter to check it. The helicopter's thermal imaging camera detected abnormal amounts of heat coming from the house. The heat was generated by the cultivation equipment. Officers from Welford Road police station raided the house on Tuesday afternoon. (FEB 4) Inspector Rich Toone, commander of Welford Road police station, said: "We initially received a tip-off from a member of the public who said they could smell cannabis in the area. "The police helicopter was in the area at the time and so we asked them to use their thermal imaging camera. "They reported a large heat source coming from the property, which is a telltale sign that high power ultra violet lamps are being used to grow drugs. "Officers found 16 plants in one room and 24 plants in another room, together with cultivation equipment. "The house has now been cleared while investigations continue. "We are committed to tackling drug misuse and we will follow up all leads relating to illegal drugs. "I would urge people to come forward and pass on any information they have in relation to illegal drug activity." Police said tell-tale signs of cannabis factories include curtains being drawn at all times, windows being blacked out and closed at all times, visitors arriving at odd times of day and large amounts of compost or soil and industrial electrical equipment being brought to the property. Cultivation equipment can make a humming sound and there may be a smell of cannabis in the air near the property, police said. Report drug activity to Leicestershire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, which is anonymous, on 0800 555 111. Reported by This is 13 hours ago.
