A YACHT caught on fire in the early hours of the morning. Firefighters were called to a 10 metre vessel in Coast Road, West Mersea at 3.49am. Crews from Mersea and Colchester wore breathing apparatus and used two jets and one hose reel with foam to extinguish the fire by 5.23am. Three other boats in the yard were damaged by the heat from the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown. Essex County Fire and Rescue service and the police will carry out an investigation.
