A New Jersey woman says a man she met on an online dating site stole her Yorkshire terrier and her flat-screen TV on their first date.

The woman said she went on her first date with a man named “Joel” on Thursday night. She called police Friday at 6:14 a.m. when she realized her dog Violet was missing, Detective Sgt. William Woodhull Jr. told the Daily Record.

She said she left Joel alone in a room with the TV and Violet and when she returned they were gone.

Sgt. Richard Gonzalez followed up on the dognapping, taking the man’s fingerprints from the woman’s cell phone and checking other locations where the woman went with Joel on their date.

She told police she believed he lived in Elizabeth.

The suspect must have been feeling the heat when police asked for public assistance.

Both the dog and the TV were returned to her home Saturday.
