SelfLube, the leading U.S. manufacturer of precision mold and die components, is pleased to announce that it is expanding its product line to now include wear strips made of Toolox44, an alloy steel that comes pre-hardened to 44 Rockwell.
Wear strips are used to guide and control movement taking place in a complex tool such as a plastic injection mold or metal stamping die. Conventionally, a steel wear strip would be machined out of annealed steel, which would then be sent out to be heat treated to the proper hardness.
“Since Toolox44 comes pre-hardened we can skip the heat treat step. This means shorter lead times for the customer,” says SelfLube Owner Phil Allor. “And, there is an added bonus. Without heat treating the part is furnished to the customer in a machineable state. This gives the customer the flexibility to make a last minute change, such as trimming a corner or putting in an extra hole, rather than having a new part made. When a change is necessary this definitely will save the customer both time and money,” adds Allor.
This new offering from SelfLube will all be standard part numbers, which will be in keeping with the industry wide drive towards standardization to reduce cost and lead time.
