DeSoto man surprised as his credit union rewards his good savings habits
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) July 30, 2013
As a prize for his excellent saving habits, one surprised – and lucky – DeSoto man has found some relief from the heat with a cool $10,000 in cash deposited in his Neighborhood Credit Union Prize Savings Account.
A shocked David McCarty opened his door Thursday morning to a group of Neighborhood Credit Union leaders and a giant $10,000 check with his name on it.
“I am amazed,” said McCarty, his eyes wide. “I’ve won a dollar here and there through the scratch off games, but I’ve never won anything of this magnitude.”
Neighborhood Credit Union CEO Chet Kimmell explained that his name had been drawn from the ranks of the credit union’s Prize Savings Account holders for demonstrating good saving habits.
“Even when the economy has had its ups and downs, you have consistently placed a priority on saving money,” said Kimmell.
Neighborhood Credit Union created the Prize Savings Account to encourage more people to save money and plan for their future by rewarding good saving habits with prize drawings throughout the year.
McCarty, who works at the U.S. Postal Service’s mail processing facility in Coppell, has been a Neighborhood Credit Union member for nearly 16 years. He joined the credit union when he first began employment with the postal service. He lives in DeSoto with his wife and children and most frequently visits the Neighborhood Credit Union branch in Lancaster, “where they really know me,” he noted.
“I’ve always tried to save for a rainy day,” said McCarty. “Today, the sun is shining on my family and me.”
When asked what he might do with the unexpected cash, McCarty said, “You know, I think I might take a vacation. Maybe to California!”

How the Prize Savings Account works: Neighborhood Credit Union members receive one drawing entry for every $25 monthly average balance in their Prize Savings Accounts. The greater the savings, the greater the chance a member has of winning. Each month, drawings are held for prizes including $1,000 cash awards. At the conclusion of each year, a $25,000 Grand Prize winner is drawn. And this new $10,000 award is designed to encourage people to keep saving during the summer and throughout the year.
About Neighborhood Credit Union: The oldest credit union in Dallas (chartered April 18, 1930), Neighborhood Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial organization serving Dallas and Ellis counties, as well as the city of Arlington.
