Mid-day, hot and sunny, a blackbird family basking in the heat, mouths agape, wings spread. There were five of them, the young that interesting red-brown with speckles. The adults looked featherworn and should be tired for I know the pair have raised three broods this year which is a lot of work. It has also been a good year for song thrushes hereabouts, and wrens, but robins and dunnocks have brought off small broods generally in this area, just twos and threes with those I have monitored...
