This is Hull and East Riding -- A COUNCIL health chief will be taking his place in TV's most famous chair when he when he takes part in a semi-final of the BBC's Mastermind.
East Riding Council director of public health Dr Tim Allison secured his place in the semi-final by winning an initial heat of the popular quiz show, which was aired last month.
With his specialist subject the fiction of CS Lewis and his general knowledge, a score of 27 left him a clear winner in the heat.
Now, Dr Allison is preparing to answer questions on the Black Death in the semi-final.
He said: "I was a bit anxious when I first sat in the black chair, but they give you an easy question to start with and, after that, it was a really enjoyable process.
"The atmosphere appears more intimidating on television than it actually is."
Dr Allison chose the novels of CS Lewis as his first specialist subject because he had often played audio books of the Narnia novels to his children in the car.
His choice of subject for the semi-final was more difficult, as some of his preferred subjects could not be used, but he settled on the Black Death because of his interest in both history and health.
Viewers will have to wait to find out how well Dr Allison does in the semi- final.
